Ignoring Justice: De Facto Justice Urges Nacho Sánchez Amor to Address Turkey’s Human Rights Violations & ECtHR Rulings

Date: 18 February 2025

Despite repeated rulings from the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), Turkey persists in its systematic violations of fundamental rights. A newly released De Facto Justice report urges Nacho Sánchez Amor, a key member of the European Parliament, to take action against Turkey’s continued disregard for international law.

🔹 Arbitrary Detentions & Unlawful Imprisonment – The case of 41 young girls arrested on baseless terrorism charges highlights Turkey’s weaponization of the judiciary to silence dissent. Additionally, lawyers like Turan Canpolat remain behind bars despite completing their sentences, demonstrating a blatant violation of due process.

🔹 Transnational Abductions & Forced Returns – The Turkish government continues its extrajudicial renditions, abducting political dissidents from countries like Kenya, Malaysia, and Pakistan. These actions violate international law and threaten the safety of asylum seekers worldwide.

🔹 Defying ECtHR Rulings – Despite the landmark Yalçınkaya decision, which found Turkey guilty of wrongful convictions, Turkish courts have refused to comply. This deliberate defiance of international rulings erodes the credibility of the European human rights framework and demands urgent intervention.

📢 The European Parliament must act now! Ignoring these violations undermines justice, democracy, and human rights across Europe.
